Product Description

An ignition coil is the car component which transforms the 12V of electricity from a car battery into the 20 to 30 thousands volts needed for rotating an internal combustion engine. This is needed so that the car can initiate engine operation under its own power. Because an external combustion engine requires the piston to be moving before the ignition phase of the cycle, the ignition coil is vital in providing the external force that is needed before an engine can power itself. The ignition coil is a simple device. It is essentially a high-voltage transformer made up of two coils of wire. One coil of wire is called the primary coil. Wrapped around it is the secondary coil. During start up, the starter is powered by the DC current of the car battery. The ignition coil uses the two coils of wire to create an electric magnetic field which inductively increases the voltage to the amount that is needed by the car’s engine. Because the ignition coils will eventually wear due to several years of use, it will eventually need to be replaced.
