In order to ignite compressed fuel, the car engine needs an electrical spark that is produced by the engine’s spark plugs. The car components that are responsible for delivering the power from the alternator or battery to the spark plugs are the spark plug wires. Though spark plug wires are designed to last the duration of a car’s life, spark plug wires will slowly wear with use. To keep a car engine performing at its peak, it is recommended that spark plug wires are changed between every 25k – 50k miles. Spark plug wires are relatively easy to change. However, it should be noted that new spark wires should be installed in the same order as the old spark plug wire to maintain the correct order of spark plug ignition.
